It was a narrow win, but it was a win nonetheless. And now, yet again, we have a Liberal government. I guess that was fairly predictable. It wouldn’t have been if Justin Trudeau had been running for office again, of course.

Yes, he was young, and when he first ran, he seemed fresh, filled with brand new ideas and possibilities, but in the end, he showed his full self when he decided he was only going to govern for some Canadians, and not all of them.

His past behaviour was forgiven in droves because he was the Prime Minister of Canada, but those of us who are “Marginalized” did not forget. We did not forget about the rumors about him being seen at the Pickton farm, we didn’t forget the Black face costumes, we didn’t and won’t forget. We can’t.

We are the generation that is “Going to control the world,” one day. We’re right fucking here, this is our time. Generation Millennial and Generation X should be working together, but instead, y’all are on TikTok arguing about who’s more dangerous.

If you’re so fucking dangerous, prove it. Stand up, be the demons that the guys in charge are afraid of, be the thing the world fears, or shut the fuck up maybe.

People are dying, en masse, because of mental health issues, terrorism, and outright murder for the sake of murder. We really need to do better as a society, and I am not talking about those of us who are struggling every single day to get out of bed, because we know we’ll have to do all the work while our “Betters” sip lemonade and tell us how we’re doing it wrong.

We as a society, need to decide, what kind of society that we want and then we need to act accordingly, but instead of doing that, we have a bunch of people – specifically women – screaming “Pick me” thinking that will keep them safe while the rest of us are watching in horror knowing that being “Chosen” doesn’t equal being safe.

Someone on Twitter said yesterday, “You can be happy the Conservatives lost, without being happy the Liberals won…” and I just feel like if that’s the attitude of the average Canadian, then we have a lot of work to do.

Not because I believe in the Liberal party – I don’t, but because we need to improve the way that people look at the power of the vote. We need to alter the perception, by actually doing the fucking work when we get into office.

By we I mean You, Mr. Carney. You have an entire country to govern, that’s millions of eyes looking up to you, inspired by you, hating you, jealous of you, angry you exist, and at the same time happy you’re the one in charge. It’s a lot of pressure, but you asked for this, so my only advice to you Sir, is don’t fuck it up.

Sending all my love,

Devon J Hall, The Original Loud Mouth Brown Girl
