If you’re lucky, these words illicit an immediate response that gets you the help you need. When you have mental health issues, that is never the case. Largely because we don’t even know how to define mental health issues yet. What does that mean?

Well for some people it means that their brains don’t work the way that society wants all brains to work, for other people it means they need medication to manage symptoms that could otherwise be harmful or dangerous.

We don’t always know when we stumble or fall until someone who isn’t in the eye of our own personal storm tells us. And sometimes if we’re smart or lucky enough we wake up and make changes to alter the negative patterns into positive ones.

Too many of us were abused before we knew what the term abuse meant. I spent years, decades really, searching for love but not being able to define that love because I was always looking for other folks to define me.

I’m finally ready to define myself and I am searching for the all-inclusive idea of “self-love” that everyone is talking about.

For some people it means getting their nails done or taking a nap, for me, it’s both those things and more. I want to learn to define self-love on my terms by myself without anyone else’s input. So to that end for the next twelve weeks, I’ll be writing over at SubStack on Love Sparks.

Love Sparks is my way of seeing what I am capable of when I step out of an umbrella of a phrase given to me by a white cop. I want to see what I can do when I take all the inspiration from the colored, disabled, Black, trans, and LGBTQ2S+ communities and do something great with it.

I want to see what I can create under an umbrella that I create myself. If you care to join me click the following link and see what comes next.

Love Sparks

Sending all my love,

Devon J Hall, The Loud Mouth Brown Girl
