Okay so someone just tweeted this and it got me thinking:

Women who get pregnant out of wedlock are demonized.

No matter what women do, no matter who we are or where we come from, we are demonized. But women who have children out of wedlock, or who decide they don’t want their children, or who are trans women, are demonized more than anyone else on the fucking planet. This is especially true if you are Black.

Back in the day when a woman was pregnant without being married, she was sent away so someone could adopt the child in secret, or often forced or coerced into having an abortion. These abortions were illegal, and dangerous because they weren’t regulated, so of course, these vulnerable women were taken advantage of by people who swore they could get rid of the baby in the most inhumane way possible because they wanted money.

In the early days of men and women being gay, bisexual, lesbians, transgender, etc, they had to hide and they lived in secret. Often spending time at underground clubs who were raided by evily violent police officers who often beat and killed these people in an effort to arrest them. Often these deaths went unanswered because back in the days when being LGBTQ2S+ or a woman was basically illegal, no one gave a fuck about what happened to these people. This is especially true if you were or are Black.

It is so cowardly to me, to be someone who spreads hatred instead of love, it is so easy to be mean, it’s easier to be kind, however. But people deliberately make the choice to be cruel because being cruel makes them feel good about themselves.

The governors and senators from Texas don’t give a flying fuck about your children, they don’t even care about their own children, all they care about is that they remain in power.

Recently 100 leaders across Jamaica signed a letter to Prince William and his wife Duchess Kate to tell them they don’t want the pair to visit, instead, they demand an apology and reparations for the family’s part in the colonization of Jamaica. I cheered, and then I cried. That is my father’s homeland.

Even though we do not speak, I respect where he came from and the sisters and brothers I have there.

The GOP was founded 168 years ago on March 20th, 1854. They were the party that helped to END slavery and look at them today. They Have Failed This Whole World.

This world has failed women, Black women specifically. Last night I posted a thread about the fact that I am angry that Black writers on Twitter don’t get as much attention as our white counterparts, and immediately the thread took off because a lot of writers can feel that.

This whole thread is in part due to the fact that I have worked really hard on this brand and both the pandemic and white supremacy has overtaken my ability to succeed. I’m not just talking about the t-shirts or my past, but all of it.

Women have it hard in this world, but Black women have it exponentially harder. I was not made ready for this world, I was designed and conditioned to fail this world, and many women in Texas are facing that very same possibility with their children.

Trans kids in Texas, women who need – read NEED – to have an abortion are facing up to the fact that their government not only doesn’t care about their human rights or freedoms but has actively planted a target on their heads.

Black Lives Matter, Trans Lives Matter, Trans Women are Women, Trans Men Are Men, Non-Binary People Exist are not just hashtags.

The Children in Your Life Are Watching and Listening To You. Some of them have the courage, the strength, and the universal need to rebel against some of your backwater red neck ideals, and some do not. Some have to learn over time, some will never learn, but YOUR legacy will be not in how much money you leave behind or how much real estate you own when you die. It will be in the lessons you passed down to the next generation.

We as a society have to decide, and demand better, of our elected officials. I am seeing the same trends in Alberta that I am seeing in Texas, white supremacy, racism, “ism” in general are killing us and this planet in a disturbing quantity.

We have to do better. I know that we’re tired, and I know that we don’t know where to start, but somewhere out there, is a fight that needs your voice. Whether it’s protecting Black women or trans kids, you have to do more than retweet what everyone else says. The world needs YOUR voice, in YOUR words, in order for change to exist in YOUR community.

You think you can’t do anything about what’s happening in Texas, but you have a phone don’t you? There is absolutely no law about you picking up a phone and dialing the Texas offices of the governor to tell him exactly how you feel about these new laws. Sign a petition, write a blog post, help the people of Texas make it as uncomfortable and annoying as possible for politicians around the world to get away with this shit.

We were united before, and we can do it again, but we’re really going to have to stop and think about the power of our individual voices.

YOU as a single SOUL, have the ENTIRE POWER of the universe INSIDE you. You just have to KICK DOWN the door and take it. – Devon J Hall

I will keep saying this until the day that I die. When you see something happening, you have the power to say something, and it doesn’t have to make you famous, it just has to be said, and maybe you’re the only one who can say it.

Maye the work you do to change the world around you will inspire someone else, who will inspire someone else, can’t that be enough? Does it always have to be for Twitter likes and social media branding?

Right now people around the world are watching in horror as Russia attacks Ukraine but very few of my social media circle are talking about Texas and I can’t comprehend why the fuck watching Ukraine vs Russia is more tantalizing than watching human rights being stripped away in your own backyard.

Is it because you can point to Ukraine and say “over there not here?” Well, I assure you the day when it’s “here not there” is coming if we don’t stand up and fight for what is right.

Trans human beings are human beings, pregnant women are vulnerable people, and both these classes of humans need our protection right now so the only question that remains is why the fuck are you staying quiet? Instead of expecting women like me to get out there and educate you all, why don’t you take all you’ve learned and start doing what you can do to be the change you really think you want to see?

Sending all my love,

Devon J Hall
