I have a cat curled at my feet, and I am feeling grateful for this today, it is an act of trust and love to have a cat curl at your feet. A reminder that you are loved and trusted by a creature who doesn’t speak the same version of language that you do.
She speaks in love, and in love only. When she gets jealous as I play with her sister, when she comes to me in the middle of the night and snuggles up at my feet, when she looks to me for permission before going outside, she is showing me love.
Animals are nothing but love, if you give them the chance, they will change everything you know about love. They will remind you of what it feels like to have another living creature need you for their journey.
Honeybee could survive on the streets by herself, because she’s so pretty she’d be snapped up in a half a second, but she chooses to remain here with me in my messy house and my stressed out life.
Honeybee reminds me to change her cat litter, and that without me, her life would be a lot different and probably more difficult. She gives me a purpose on this earth, and in return, I try to give her a safe place to live, and to play, as she exists purely to exist.
I love my animals, and I would do anything to have a wild variety of them, but I have been blessed with cats, and dogs, who have never done anything to hurt me, but have only ever loved me, unashamedly.
Animals are a necessary part of mental health care. They give us something to live for, when we are lonely they are there to entertain us with their antics, and to share with us the joys of being an animal. They allow us in their presence and all they ask in return is that we feed them, clean up after them and love them.
Animals teach us how to be responsible and mature, they give us a sense of belonging in a world that can feel harsh, cruel, and lonely.
If you are suffering from loneliness and anxiety, I highly recommend getting an animal if it is a feasible option for you. Animals help with our anxiety, our depression, and the misery that comes with dealing with mental health issues.
When they are around, my cats bring me a sense of understanding about myself. Sometimes they are all over me, and other times they want nothing to do with me, but when I least expect it is when they show me the most love.
I thought I would share this with you today because there is a cat curled up at my feet, and it’s the most wonderful feeling of love that I’ve ever experienced, and I needed that today.
Sending all my love,
Devon J Hall
