New Look

How do you like the new layout? Do you notice the changes or does it look to similar to the last layout for you? Do you even care? it’s okay if you don’t because I suspect you’re here for content versus aesthetics.

It’s crisper, and it’s cleaner, and I am really happy with the new layout. I am excited because I am starting to learn how to use the new block editor here on WordPress, and if you know anything about WordPress, anything new is not easy.

I haven’t had as much time with the new block editor as I have with the old format because well it was easier to do things the old way rather than learn how to do things the new way.

Unfortunately however, that just delays the inevitable and prevents progress and I am as you know, all about progress.

I have come a long way since I started this website a year and a half ago, and I am pretty impressed with how I am dealing with everything.

I hate to tell you this, but to those of you who are asking how I got to this place of basically being happy most of the time, it stems from being high. Which isn’t something that a lot of people can handle.

Smoking pot has forced me to face up to demons I didn’t even know I had, but it’s also allowed me to be creative in ways I didn’t know I could be.

This brand that I am building,I built stoned. Almost every single post – if not every single post – on this website, on my social media, was mad while I was stoned. So don’t let them tell you that stoners can’t succeed in life. So long as you remember that it is on you to do the work even when you’re stoned, you will be just fine.

Having a new look on the website, has forced me to really think about my audience, and in doing so the one thing I realized that I don’t talk enough about is marijuana. I mean I don’t get into the nitty gritty politics of it all because I don’t really understand it all myself.

However, much like figuring out how to use this new block editor, it’s something I really want to get into learning about because I use it almost every single day. When people ask me questions about the strains that I use or where I get my weed I want to be knowledgeable.

I also want to get into talking about local politics, so that’s going to be taking up a lot of my time, because it means actually doing my research.

I am after all a student of the universe, and I haven’t really these past months, been focusing on the outside world. I’ve been so focused on building the brand and perfecting the content creation, that I haven’t really been entertaining anything outside of LMBG.

I am excited for what’s to come, I would like to open the website to submissions again, but that’s going to have to wait until I can afford to pay writers. That’s something that’s really important to me. I want to hire people to write for me.

I want to turn this website into a full blown magazine that represents Brown and Black girls from across Canada. It’s going to take awhile to get there, a long while probably.

I am okay with that though, because I am actually further ahead than I thought I might e at this point. I think the head start that I got on myself when I first started writing for this site was a huge help.

One of the things that I would like to see more of on this site for sure is discussion. I’m not very good at inviting discussion, but I am trying to work on it. How am I doing so far?

Another thing I really, absolutely want to see on this website is paid content. Sure sure, I have my Buy Me A Coffee account and there is premium content there, but I really like the idea of having my blog posts in one space instead of spread out across numerous platforms.

That being said there will still be plenty of free content, but it would be nice to have the work I am putting into this site, create a foundation for the future of this brand.

I’d also really like to know what y’all would like to see this website become. I want to ensure that those who come here are getting what they pay for so to speak, even if that payment comes only in the form of your time. It matters to me that you genuinely enjoy your experience here on Loud Mouth Brown Girl.

So what do you think? do you love it? Do you hate it? is it more magazine than blog now? Please consider leaving a comment and I promise to return them all.

Sending all my love,

Devon J Hall

  1. I love that you have created a new look for your site! I know how good I felt when I finally let go of the old and decided to play around with themes and fonts. I love simple so your theme really gives focus to the writing!
