So a lot of people wonder what it is I do, specifically, people who like to talk down about me being a Content Creator, but don’t fully know what being a Content Creator means, so I thought I’d share with you.
Let’s Start with my books:
Both of these books are completely different from each other. The first inspires you to ask questions about how to be your best self while making room for people who are marginalized, and the second book shows you how to be your best self so you can make room for yourself.
Both of these books complete me. They teach me that I can exist in a world where I am an author, and allow me the space I need to keep writing while giving others inspiration and hope to keep going when things are tough or when people are struggling.
She Mixed Media is a brand new company that I am working on. Its goal is to help other content creators exist and build on their skills so that they can join the world of content creation filled with adjusted thinking about your capabilities. Through SMM I focus my energies on helping other people take their content creation to the next level.
The shop is where I get to let exercise my design skills by creating one-of-a-kind t-shirts, hoodies, wine glasses, and coffee mugs for my customers. It’s a skill I’ve always wanted to use but didn’t know how because the technology I needed to make my designs a reality didn’t exist until recently. You can find all my latest designs by clicking the linked image.
I can’t stress this enough, the work that I do is valuable, if to no one else then at the very least to myself. The work on my mental health that I share here on my blog helps me to keep track of my growth and to remind me that on my worst day, my best day is just around the corner.
Some days feel more and more like the same especially in the winter when it’s hard to travel and escape the house and the hours of staring or working on my computer, but in the summertime, I am free to go wherever I want. Everywhere I go is a part of my content creation journey because I can take pictures and spend time getting to know myself.
Content Creators create content for audience members to consume, which can include videos, podcasts, blogs, or images, that other people get to see and read. I choose because I am broke, not to monetize all of my content for the sole purpose of making sure that as many people can see it as possible.
That’s why I have the shop and the bookstore, these products allow me a small amount of space to keep pushing for better mental health care for those who need it the most.
Each of us approaches content creation differently, but when we decide that “this” is what we want to do, we find often that we are isolated, and stuck behind the stigma of what that means. “Oh you’re dancing on the internet,” for some people it’s because they want to get famous.
For me, and only for me, it’s because creating content helps give me a focus and a foundation so that I can heal my mental health, instead of struggling all the time. Allowing myself the space to talk about what I am going through helps me and others, and that’s what keeps me going.
Sending all my love,
Devon J Hall
