If you don’t know who Doctor Henry is, she’s the one setting the health standards by which we live during this pandemic. She decides how many people are allowed to gather, and whether or not restaurants and bars are allowed to be open.
She is working her ass off, to protect and save as many lives as possible, across the Lower Mainland.
She’s been receiving death threats lately, because people are angry that bars are not allowed to be open. They don’t believe that this pandemic is real, and basically they are dealing with a host of mental health problems, that they are dealing with by threatening to hurt the good Doctor.
It’s so fucking 2020 that I am not even surprised. I am however absolutely disgusted. The very fact that she has an entire team of men and women around her, and she’s the one receiving threats is so fucking typical of how women are treated even in 2020 that I would be remiss if I didn’t say something.
People are so easily ready to tear down women in power, while completely ignoring their male counterparts, and damnit, it’s just not fair.
For fuck sakes, how much more do women have to prove, for us to be seen equally? Protected equally? Treated equally? How much more do we have to sacrifice before enough is enough?
I feel like I say this a lot and I hate repeating myself, but I genuinely worry for the day that I look back at my life, and see how far I have come, only to have it all come crashing to a head because someone has decided they hate me enough to threaten me with death….again.
Being threatened with death is not new for me, I’ve experienced death threats, the last time I was raped, several men had to pull one off of me, because he wanted me to die as he was raping me. It’s not lost on me that the same men who raped me also saved my life is beyond ironic.
I am tired of living in a world where the lives of women are not respected. From Dr. Henry, to Breonna Taylor, to the girl living down the street, women are not safe in this world, and it’s fucking enough already.
We’ve been through enough, we have sacrificed enough, we have given enough to this world that we deserve to be seen as equal, protected equally, to our male counterparts.
This pandemic isn’t her fault, and through her work, Dr. Henry and her team have saved hundreds of thousands of lives across British Columbia, and of course that doesn’t seem to matter to the people who are threatening to hurt her or worse.
I hope they find you, and I hope you go to jail for a very, very long, time. You deserve to think about your behavior, and to get help for your mental health issues, but what you don’t deserve is to threaten the lives of other human beings just because you’re pissed off about your situation.
At a certain point, we have to start expecting people to start taking responsibility for their behavior, and that point comes when your behavior affects my life.
Sending all my love to Dr. Henry, her family, and her team today,
Devon J Hall
